Mission (seems!) Possible: 1

After a hard try, I am atleast happy of my effort on preparation. One shouldn’t be asking how much have studied :-) (But, will surely come to know it, when I sit for the exam tomorrow )

So, today, I freeze up things… Probably, after this big bubble, I have no plans of opening any technical books/topic for the next 2 (or more) months,
Lets all have a exciting New year :-)

Coffee.

(Ayyar: Otherwise, known us Jaisankar. We were classmates of our BE course. )

5 years back, it was my earlier days of college life. I was looking strange at every one. People dont get closer with surrounders easily for many reasons. They tend to have a limited mind-sets, untill they attain some ages. The worst thing is to find out companions, with same mind-sets, in a new environment.

Ayyar (a.k.a Jaisankar): He was looking well-docked, and was (trying to act) smart. But, it didnt match with his doings. It was easy for any one else to catch him. And so would I. :-)
(Photo1: Ayyar standing right side, shot at his office function -- ethnic day.)

I would say the first two years of the college life was absoultely horrible. Seriously. We had Hitlers and his Brothers to rule us. We wanted a relief. We made it ourselves.

Ayyar: He used to mimic and imitate every one lived around him. if you speak with him for ten mins, he will replay what you did. ;-) He used to mimic Warden, Staffs, HOD and etc.. you name it, he did it.

Ayyar is good hearted in nature. He donates blood and helps in all possible ways, that most of dont. He wont mind prestige for doing any work if required.

Exams were the 'Super Stars' of that age. Ayyar doesnt know the exam name untill some one tells him. He scored very less marks in his first year (No, he just thought in that way). So, he decided to quit hostel and take a room outside the college. He needed a companion with him.

One day, he called everyone to assemble in a room.. and his speech goes like this, "I planned to stay outside for many reasons...I have to concentrate more on (higher) studies, placement...etc .. so, I planned to stay outside.. who will come with me.. ". Needless to say, no one was ready to come with him, since they knew that his promises were valid only for night-times and they would expire next day.At last, Kishore was the victim, who supported him.

So, here after, his second-half starts. There after, Ayyar almost lost his life in planning.. planning.. and planning. Becasue, he didnt find time to execute any of his plans until he finished his BE. So, over a longrun, no body was ready to listen his future plans. At last it ended up people forming a new proverb "Like ayyar's promise..."

The third half starts when ayyar becomes a Software Engineer. He says that it has happened accidentally. But he deserves it. He works round the clock in office (dont know what!) and during week-ends also. But, some of us comment that he goes to office just to utilize the benefits like food and other amenities. It's he has to answer.

I know him for the last half-decade. The times, I laughed very much, were with him. He was the person I didnt mind talking for a long time on the phone.

Out of all my tensions, I remembered him. He still laughs in memory and makes me laugh.

Ayyar wont read this post unless I send him. Even He doesnt know that something exists like this here.

But, he wont be angry even if he happens to read this. Thats what something makes me to write about him!

(Photo 2: Ayyar, during his office day function.)

Mission Impossible :-)

There are number of “Mission Impossible”s set in front of me. I meant to say, the targets are hard to touch.

The way of living has changed quite lot in these days. The way of thinking has been changed in an unprecedented manner. I just wonder that the life would have turned beautiful, if would have done few things earlier in my age. Let it be.

Needless to say, as I had done number of mistakes in past, I earned number of lessons.

I am not going to trail anything new, anymore. Will be practicing and habitualizing what been taught so far.

Working hard to turn the “Mission Possible”.

Aim Big:

Long long ago, mobile phone was unnecessary for me. I decided to buy one because of some incidents. That was Noki 1100. Still I use it. I didn’t think of buying another one, since, it is very stable till date.

Till this moment, I didn’t have any idea of changing my mobile. Since, my usage on phone is comparetively less.

But, I wish to buy something else:

  1. A camera, with the resolution of at least 5 to 6 mega pixel.
  2. A music player, which can play cool, and help in bringing peace.

If I can find out all these in a mobile phone, sure, I will buy it.

While consulting all these, with Dr. Google, his recommendation was to go for ‘Nokia N95’. Which has what I wish and more than that. I dialled some local dealer and asked the details of ‘Nokia N95’. The reply was, “It is not yet into the market sir”. Oops, then, it might be .. ? … ? ..

Nokia N93 is itself comes around 320,00 Rs. (INR). Then, N95 will be . . ? :-) Let’s see.

(If any body knows any model with my requirements, please post in comments)

And, I am very much lured to buy Nokia N95, if God willing.

Here is Nokia N95 standing with Guts: http://www.nokia.com/nseries/index.html

Movie: We were Soldiers

We were soldiers

Yesterday had a chance to watch the movie. Mel Gibson -- I think he would have had a dream of becoming an Army man, in his childhood ;-). Almost all his films are war based. This movie is yet another one.

The story centers on a battle between America and Vietnam. Gibson leads his soldiers form America towards Vietnam. In his films, I always find the dialogues are simply exciting. Before the battle is kicked off he gives a speech in front of his force, which goes like..,

“I am not sure I can bring you all alive to Home. But, I will be the first person to step in the battle field and the last person to step-off the field. And I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive. We will all come home.” -- Awesome.

Then, the film goes violently. You will see guns, firing sound, weeping of wounded soldiers everywhere in the frames!

At last, Gib son says his soldier what they had lost in the field to get this victory!

Gibson!—is always one my favorite directors and actors.

Target: 20 days

I didn’t think that things will turn up this much urgent. I have hell a lot of work pending with me! :-(

Have to read bulk of books and workout a lot in forthcoming days. I’ve booked scbcd 5.0 exam on 16th Dec. I am little afraid whether I can prepare and make it up on the day!

I want to finish them off before Christmas/New Year, as I want to enjoy the holidays. Because, I started ‘Living my Life’! :-)

பெங்களூர், A/C

Bangalore, A/C

Bangalore. The garden city. Landed here last Thursday. It was chill to look around every where. Even though, the sun is hot in these days, it doesn’t hurt us! (unlike chennai) :-)

Wherever you go, you see a ‘software park’. I like it. Whatever the time it is, still it remains chill. I like it very much! -;)

I enjoy spending my mornings in walking. I walk up to LalBaugh daily in the morning. It gives peace to be in the garden, where can see green everywhere.

Happy Bangaloring! :-)

If it has not happened in the way it happened.. !

1. I walk for several kilometers in a day, in these days! :-)
2. I like tamil poems; sometimes I write few and trash!
3. I like to be alone; I like to walk alone.
4. I like to go to somewhere by walk, where I've never been to before.
5. I don’t get tensed much, it seems nothing matters big in life!
6. I just imagine how I would have grown and what I would be now, If I've not came across in the way I came :-)
7. I often want to meet my school mates, class mates, or anyone that I've not met in the recent days.

Let it be. Seems, some changes happening!

Commitments for free of cost!

Yes, yes, it seems so. We make lots of promises and commitments in day to day life – ourselves and for others. But, the crazy thing is that, sometimes, we even don't mind them and try to convince ourselves to drop them into bin.

This is because, the strength of commitments degrade as time passes by. We don't feel the same fire in commitments over a period. It's cooled. It's moderated. And, gradually it is trashed. I am sure this should be the case of 99% of the people who make promises/ commitments/ goals.

The 1% remaining people are those who seem much aggressive in achieving what they said. (Ex: your boss!)

So, before making promises, we must thousand time promise to keep the promises!

Have blasts!

Yes, it’s looking like so. I am working out some blasting plans peacefully. My mind is constant, matured and has bean taught million things of what NOT TO DO than what TO DO.

I am just serious about following the learnings and lessons of past. I don’t want to repeat all such mistakes once again, which then may lead me to unrecoverable state!

This may be a 100th time to report such an 'Yet another mistake'. But, every time we realize our mistakes, we grow a bit! I believe in it.

Keeping all the learnings and cautions in mind, planned to step forward once again!

I always wanted to collect the poems by Vairamuthu. I’m thinking of collecting/posting his ‘Best Lyrics’ here eventually. Here is his cool ‘kavithai’ on ‘Kathaliththupaar!’

Note: I just have an audio in which Vairamuthu dictates this ‘kavithai’ -- I’m just listening and typing it in tamil. It might have slight differences.

(feel free to post comments if you dont understand any part! :-) )

Kodaikanal: A meet, A trip.

Kodaikanal

A meet

Yes, this hill resort is best viewable from my house’s terrace. But, I’ve never been to.
Btw, I got a chance to meet few of my schoolmates together at these holidays. We decided to plan a trip to somewhere – where we can sit comfortably and chat.

A trip

It was 22nd Oct 2006, Sun 06:00 AM. We hired a call taxi, and flagged off the trip. We were six in numbers. Usually, I do watch the routes while traveling to places. I was making thousands of routing calculations to reach the place. But, the driver was smart enough to break my mathematics and proved his experience! He showed me lots of short cuts which would help in reaching the place very faster.

Dum Dum Rock

His words were true. It was 06:35 AM while our car hit the foot hill. The first spot, we stopped at, is ‘Dum Dum rock’ – a view point. It was an exciting sight; there was a water-fall in distance, which should be more than 500 feet tall! It was like a white light in greenish Western Ghat Mountains – For me, telling someone how the sight excited me was like telling them how a song should make them feel! :-)

Silver Falls

The car sped off on the hill-way. Next stop point was ‘Silver falls’. The name matches with the place’s beauty! It was wonderful to see the waterfall in the bright morning. We took lots of snaps there and around.

The top

I couldn’t resist myself from controlling an unwanted fear while topping the hills J I wondered to realize that I was standing on 2000 feet! Chillness spread over me in and out.

The lake view

The lake view was not that much attractive. Usually, I don’t like greenish water, since it is impure! :)

Pillar Rock

Then, Pillar Rock. Again a falls. My friend told me to notice a ‘cross’ symbol/statute on the very top of the falls. I asked my friends and some of the tourists what was it and who placed it on the heights. But, I didn’t receive any reasonable answers from anyone. (Yes, I didn’t ask Mr. Google yet!)

Guna Cave

They had made a fence around the cave. I’ve heard lots of stories about it already. I just glanced the cave from distance, with a little fear. One tourist guide was explaining to his tourists, “This cave is formed as gap between mountains and it is a 900+ feet hole. If anybody falls into this, usually the rescuers take a day or two to locate the person!” Oops, let’s leave this place! J

Suicide Point

I’ve never seen such a hollow space in my life before. I saw some mountains and falls below my feet! One of the tourists threw a plastic plate, but it was pumped up to 1 mtr towards sky and then went down deep! :D

In few minutes, the clouds and white midst rouse up and hide the place form view. It was white to look at anywhere down.

Something stoke at mind and it was, “The Sky is falling” :)

Park

It was around 5:30 PM while we entered in. The places were completely arrested by light midst. My hands were so chill and my mouth was smoking without cigarettes! J We took lots of snaps to washout the battery charge. And it turned dark.

We came back to home and it was 7:50 PM. Still the chillness stays with me.

(I’ll post the snaps after sometimes)

After Diwali.

I was on long leave for this Diwali holidays. I’ve bagged a 3.1 mp dig cam with me while going home. Have taken lots of photos. Have shot beautiful sceneries surrounded my houses which includes, Dams, rivers, small streams, mountains and of course my family!

I’ll take sometimes to upload the photos into www securely and post the URLs.

The single answer.

After a very long period, I am in(te) rest(less). I’ve not touched any technical books since a month. I’m eagerly waiting for the change in day to day life, which is going to happen very sooner. So, I’m not interested in anything as of now.

I was not shaken by anything happened over the last month – despite so many things went on. I really wonder how I could stand stable without any fear/mental disorder unlike before. Then, I feel little happy about myself that I became pretty matured and confidence than ever before. This is the person, I often tried to be, but failed to be. It might be the single answer for lots of questions running in mind over long days. Now, I can clearly, frankly tell and distinguish my strength & weakness!

Going home on Diwali hols. Planning to stay for a long time there and around. This time, I might take some snaps, if possible.

Sooner, I will post the happy news! :-)

The lessons.

These are some lessons I learnt (or)
something always think of (or)
something like I want to be (or)
something I already be.

(Disclaimer: All these sayings are my own! Not to hurt anybody else, or not because of anybody else!)

1. The finest moment in my life is when I was thinking of nothing.
2. The time I always be brave is when I am loyal to my conscience.
3. I always suspect silent people – their other side might be dangerous.
4. Do not act as some one whom you are not. People, are not lured by imitations.
5. I hate commanding people, and I never want to be anyone’s manager.
6. Everyone else in life needs to be respected. God has his own purpose to create every living.
7. I always ashamed of eating delicious, when a beggar in front of me is starving.

Web hosting basics (for novices)

So, you have decided to publish your own web site. Now, how do you go about doing it? We’ll discuss hosting your own site step by step.

I. Define the scope of your hosting needs

First, you have to be very well aware of all the hosting functionalities that you might need. Sample cases:
  1. Publishing some web pages or photos with descriptive content (Static Pages)
  2. Reserving a domain name based on your name or family name (Personal websites) and running the site.
  3. Interacting with your visitors (Guest Book, Online shopping Portal, Customer feedback and etc)
  4. Running news sites that handle high user traffic (like cnbc.com, ibnlive.com and etc)

II. Choose the hosting provider

  1. If your requirement is similar to case I.1, then you may choose free hosting services like geocities.com or pages.google.com. These sites provide static hosting services for free of cost. Yet, they provide tools to build, edit your web pages.
  2. If your requirement is similar to case I.b, then you have to register a domain name first. Refer to the post (http://web-admins.blogspot.com/2008/08/domain-names-at-cheap-price-10.html), that lists a review of companies that provide domain name registration service for cheap price. Once, you have registered a domain name, you have to map it to a server (location of a directory where in your entire html files are stored). This space is called as web space or storage space. You may either buy the space from service providers or you may redirect all the requests to this registered domain to some other web sites.
  3. If your requirement is similar to case 1.c, where in you need to interact with your web site visitors, then you have to buy a hosting service that offers server side scripting (Php, Perl, Jsp, Python and etc) facility. You have to check with the service providers for the quota limits like web space quota, database quota.
  4. For case 1.d, you may have to go for dedicated servers that offer a hassle free service.
III. Building your web pages

Your web site content and appearance is what attracts your visitors. So, you need to pay more attention while designing your web pages and writing the web page contents. There are plenty of web designing tools available online. We’ll be discussing this section in detail.

This poem was written & read out by Vairamuthu, in front of public of Tiruppur (Tamil Nadu) at a opening ceremony of a cemetery! This poem was very much appreciated and consoled many hearts over the audience.

(Ananda Vigatan published the poem in last week issue).

....

Lyrics.

The lyrics which I read recently. I wish to blog them, before they leave my memory. Cool lines!

Tip #3: Difference: Jvm, JRE, JDK, J2SDK, HotSpot...

JVM, JRE, JDK, J2SDK, HotSpot... : These terms are often parts of Java programmers communication. But, it seems.. all such terms sound to mean a same thing – no, they just seem, not really. Let’s discuss and distinguish the terms in detail.

JVM- Otherwise called as 'Java virtual machine' that actually takes the .class file as input, interprets it and executes it. JVM is platform dependent. The java.exe, found in your J2SDK/bin folder is called as JVM!

JRE - JRE includes a JVM and standard libraries (which are imported by default during execution). Note, JRE doesn't include other tools like jdb, javac, javap and etc. It includes only the jvm (java.exe) and default packages. JVM can be thought as a proper subset of JRE.

JDK - JDK is a box in which everything is put together. JDK includes JRE as well as other necessary tools and libraries. You have JRE, JVM and all the standard & extended libraries.

Important differences:

1. The important difference between JRE and JDK is that, Java License allows any one to re-distribute the JRE along with his product. But, it is illegal to re-distribute the JDK with your product!

2. JDK and J2SDK exactly refer to a same thing. But, what is difference? The term ‘JDK’ is just re-branded (re-named) to ‘J2SDK’ to bring a Standard (guts?) to Java. Seriously! :-)

The following simple formulas can help you to understand easily what were said above:

JVM = java.exe
JRE = JVM + Standard Libraries – Other java tools like jdb, javac.
JDK = JRE + Other java tools + all core libraries and packages.
J2SDK = rename (JDK)

Exercise:

The term ‘HotSpot’ is left unexplained. If you are curious to know, Pl, spare some minutes to find out yourself and post the answer as comment.
Or, let me post the answer in next tip.

Mr. Smart: Jackie Chan

I haven’t ever seen any one being this much smart in his old age! Jackie Chan is an exception. He is a most famous martial artist, asia’s most paid, and the most brisk, never seen ever.

If you pay keen attention to his kicking and jumping, first time you would wonder how these things are possible to him. But, the risk and pain he takes behind the screen is horrible. The News is true that no one insurance company is ready to give Jackie, a insurance policy. They are afraid of his risk stunts.

I guess the first Jackie’s film I saw is ‘Police Story II ‘. He acted as a cop. He usually take the roll of a cop and chases smugglers. He never assists dupes. He himself acts in any challenging fight & chase scenes. He would have become world’s hero if he had been into Holly Wood. But, time didn’t make it happen. All his famous adventures are limited only within Asian countries. Only, very few of his films went to Holly Wood and they are block busters, of course. Rush Hour, Shangai Noon are some few to name.
I am, sort of his fan, and don’t miss his films!

And, yes, he has rewarded with numerous awards. He’s been the best actor in Hong kong over many years. His films were also big Box Office drawers in many Asian countries and American cities.

The wonder full films by Jackie, I have seen are: The Myth, New Police Story ,Around the World in 80 Days, The Medallion, Rush Hour I & II , Shanghai Noon , Who Am I?, Mr. Nice Guy , Miracles , Super cop , Project A II, Police Story, Drunken Master, The Young Master, Armour of God, Thunderbolt.

He is the Mr. Smart!

Tip #2: How to access the private variables outside the class in java?

Is that possible?

Yes, it is. Have you ever heard of ‘Java Reflection API’?. If no, then this brief intro can help. Java Reflection API: has set of classes and methods to access the runtime behavior and memory foot print of classes and objects”

Using the reflection API, you can access (any) instance member variable of an object. Yet, you can do a lot more with that.

Don't you thing this is a loop hole in Java? Breaking the integrity of Oops?

Not in that way. This API actually meant for helping people tracing the memory foot print and for developing applications like ‘Java Debugger’, ‘Java Profiler’, ‘Java Application Monitor’ and the likes. Usually, other applications programmers are advised not to use this API unnecessarily.

The following simple example demonstrates how to access the private variable of an object outside the class (using Reflection API):

(This example is referred from javareference.com)

java.lang.reflect.*;

class Example {

private int x = 10; // means not available to outside the class
public int y = 10; // accessible from anywhere.

}

public class ReflectionDemo

{
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {

Example e = new Example();
Class ref = e.getClass(); //will return ‘Example’ – right?
Field f = ref.getDeclaredField("x"); // watch here! :)
f.setAccessible(true); // Now the ‘x’ is accessible!
Object obj = f.get(e);
int val=((Integer) obj).intValue();
System.out.println("Private var X is = " + val);

}
}

That’s it!

If you want to know more about Reflection API, spend some minutes at Sun sites/ Tutorial.

Answer for Tip #1

Here comes the answer for the question asked in last tip (Tip #1 Java Memory Issues) : To run the program successfully, you have to increase the memory by using JVM command line options –Xmx and –Xms, like

$java –Xms20m –Xmx120m Memory

The -Xms20m options instructs the JVM to set the initial heap size to be 20 MB and the –Xmx120m options instructs the JVM to set the Maximum heap size to be 120 MB. (If this doesn’t work for your machine, you can try changing the numbers).

After the rain..

I can’t obviously tell the things went around after my last blog post. But, they went well as I expected. I am very much satisfied and happy at this moment.

I see things lying before me as how something would look like after it stopped raining!

Tip #1: Java Memory issues.

Hmm. I am going to write some tech bits frequently, which might help others. So, let’s start the first one.

Memory issue:

The most critical problem, most of us might be experiencing is memory leak. Your JVM may brainlessly spit out “OutofMemoryException”, then say “bye” and exit. It’s because your heap memory ( heap -the memory used for storing objects used in the program) might have become full.

So, in order to fix this issue, you have to increase heap space size using the JVM command line arguments –Xms (Initial Heap size) and –Xmx (Maximum Heap size)

Exercise: (If you wish!)

1. Just compile and run the below code. Watch curiously what happens. Then, use the tip presented above and fix the issue.I may get a chocolate for you if you get it running :-)

class memory {

public static void main (String args [] ) throws Exception {

int[] a = new int[18000000] ; // Watch here! :-)
System.out.println("Code is running");
}

}

Note:I will post the ans when I post next Tip. :-)

Life is beautiful

Book :

I was little seious about some thing last week. I am completely engaged with some serious things till this mid of Sept, (perhaps over October). Then, I've been trying to get a template/layout for the book for more than a week, but I've not yet got one still. I have sent request to somebody, let me wait for their reply.

Life is beautiful:

I wanted to imagine my life without computers and computer related books. In these sat & sunday, I didnt touch any book, didnt type anything on keyboard and even didnt think of anything related to technology. My mind was completely free; I didnt feel such a beautiful life before - seriously!

But, it can only be an imagination. I am getting ready to start-out the next day - Monday!
(which I ever hate from school days..) :-)

Khakka Khakka - II

I hope, you could have guessed the movie name, what I am talking about. (but still I will tell the name: Vettaiyadu, Vilayadu). I think that Gowtham (Director) has much been inspired by ‘Serial killer’, ‘Thriller’ and the kind of novels.

Gowtham, himself said in one of his interviews that the story of the film was 99% same as Khakka Khakka. “Khakka Khakka was a local chase; but it is going to be an international chase” – said Gowtham, before starting the film.

Kamal introduction scene was very exciting – You will like it very much if you (still) like “Khakka Khakka”. Then, each and every scene hides behind suspense with thrilling background music. Kamal (DCP, Raghavan) takes in charge of finding the serial killers. He starts his hunting. After kamal lands in New York, it gives us the feeling of being there by ourselves (watch the people there conversing only in English, most of the films don’t dare to do!). Jyothiga.. was not given that much importance, but she acted just by facial expressions as she always does. (at last, she is rescued -- this might be the only difference between both films).

Songs were shot pretty cool. Gowtham takes us a free tour around NY (Noticed Gowtham appearing in one of the songs? ).

But, most of the scenes look too violent. If you can bear this, you will be very much impressed by the film. :)

If you like to see the movie, better sit in a DTS enabled theatre :-)

Thinking of.

It was chill to be in home. Not only because of the climate, the people around me made it so. I did some thing useful, apart from tasting the home made foods.

[1] I am going to continue/ spend time on writing the book. The first chapter/ draft will be made avail during September first week. No, let’s be specific: 3rd, September.

    1. Will publish more details about content, chapter organization, scope and etc, very sooner.
    2. Will have to discuss/participate in lots of technical forums, mailing lists to gather more!
    3. Will have to look into the recent picks and try to signify them.

[2] I am thinking of focusing more on SOA. Also, will have glimpse at latest Middleware technologies.

[3] Next article/writing will focus on, um, still in confusion J

Sivaji Ganesan.

Whenever given a chance, I never miss to see his films – no matter how old it is. It doesn’t seem he had acted in films; rather he would have lived in.

He will make his audience to loose their consciousness, while watching his films. He will make them weep, while he weeps; he will make them smile, while he does it. He is portrayed as “Unique Tamil Actor” till date. Perhaps over three to four generations.

It is good to know that people had realized, appreciated and awarded his talent! He has got Padmasri, Padmabhusan, Chevalier (france), Dadha Saahib Paalke and etc awards in his career. Oscar team might not be knowing about him, it seems! :-)

I am able to imagine how Bharathiyar looked like and Kattabomman lived only after seeing his films! I closely watch his actions whenever I get chances to see his films. He doesn’t make it like; he does it as it is.

One of my friend used to comment him, “He almost forgot what his unique personality was, because he was living (acting) in others personalities through out his life! “

His soul left us five years ago – his great talent lives with us ever.

Out of Office Blog :

This week went away in the way I guessed (so fastly!). I was reading some old technical books, chit/chatting with friends on phone. And, today is the most expected day -- I meant week's last working day.

The plans for holidays:

[1] Going to some hill stations.
[2] Reading some tech topics whatever I left.
[3] Reading some good articles/ nice stuffs I downloaded.
[4] Preparing abstract/propsal/drafts for next articles/white paper.
[5] Looking the possibilties of continuing the book! [yes, I started writing one technical book -- it's on hold for very long!]

Let's see how many of these I can do successfully!

Kathy Sierra | Maintenance, Backup | Toys, Collection | Monday to Friday

Kathy Sierra
I was shocked while reading Kathy's blog. She published a post regarding the 'lay-off' at Sun Microsystems. She even went depth and explained the news emotionally. Time has to change things. May god bless Sun, to live long.

More: http://headrush.typepad.com/

Maintenance / Back up

It's now almost 7 months, since I installed the OS (Windows XP) in my Little Genius (Little Genius -- my laptop's pet name! :) ). Today, I forced Maintenance/ Back up activities. My God! My Little Genius was used like a production server in the past months! A DataBase server, a Web server, an App server were running in laptop, BTW :-)

And, above all, I am experiencing the famous windows problem 'system slowdown' now a days.Little Genius will be back to form in a day or two.

Toys/ Collection

Today, went to shop toys and collection... as I am going home next week. Am waiting to meet my dear kids...

Monday -> Friday.

Days are rolling so fast!.... If it's monday now, very sooner it turns friday..!!!God, one quest for you: Did you change anything in clock ticks of time ? :)

The nuts and bolts.

[1] How will you access a private variable of a class (of course, out side the class) in java?
[2] How will you display the column names, column counts in JDBC?
[3] How will you store and retrive image files to and from database using JDBC?
[4] . . .. .

I am learning quite interesting things ! :)

And,... I understand your question, why I put the image?

Doesnt it show I am in full-swing ? :)

RE: Bug Report for a Human

[Yes, God won't reply! -- my conscience replies...]

Mani,

These bugs are very usual in human life. Read through my reply below.

>Bug ID: 4879849
>Votes: 1
>Synopsis: Person became very lazy and went out of interest in every thing.

Yeah, restless humans live out of peace. Take rest as per the norms declared for humans. It’s you, only you, have to take care of yourself and no one else.

The interest degradation is due to your boring life. You forgot the goals and dreams you created. You trashed them to bin, due to this machinery life. Bring them back. Live in your dreams. Work on it. Then, you will see things turning interesting; you will see a fire throughout the life.

Mark my words: Life is interesting no more, while there is no purpose of living it!

>Bug ID: 4879850
>Votes: 1
>Synopsis: Always running sort of memory. Not able to recall/memorize any more information.

Ha ha! That’s a cool bug! Your memory is not Gigabyte hard disk right? Please, don’t dump the information as a junk into brain. I can give you two solutions.

[1] Keep recalling the things you learnt from life; you learnt from books; Recalling is the most efficient solution to keep things safe from memory loss.
[2] Always ensure your presence of mind. Ask yourself what you are doing at the moment. Land your brain in a zero frequency zone -- I mean in a thought-less state. A peaceful mind can’t forget things!

>Bug ID: 4879851
>Votes: 1
>Synopsis: Attitude Problem. Not dare enough to face life in the way it answers.
Oops!

Life is a thrilling novel I wrote for you! You don’t know what’s there in next page until I show you!

My humble advice for you is, work, work faster and keep working till your last breath. I am here to evaluate your work over time and give you the result one day (just like Newton’s 3rd Law)!

With Best Regards,
The God.

Rebirth of my blog!

This might be a renaissance for this blog! It really worries me to recall what happened few days back… here is just a flash-back:

When I tried accessing my blog page few days ago, the browser returned a null page; I thought it was because of some Gateway problem – as it happens sometimes.

Later, came to know that blogspot.com, geocities.com, and 20 more other sites had been banned by Indian ISPs on the order of Govt. of India.

It stunned me. I have been writing blogs for more than couple of years; I usually have the habit of posting very good urls, technical solutions, photos, my likes, dislikes and other more important things in my blog site.

What happened now? Why is this all?

The Govt. would have received consequent threats from hackers and the likes. So, it would have decided to ban the kind of sites, which publish any kind of messages so openly [like blogspot]. As the Govt. issued order, the Indian ISPs such as Airtel, Sify banned these sites without even giving any notices to their subscribers or to press persons.

Later, it was realized that it was not the way it should have been done, and then the Govt agreed to lift the blockade on these sites. But, still there are sites remain banned as they are marked by the Govt.

This blockade is not the way in which this problem could be solved; there are billions of web pages over internet that fall in every kind of categories. No one can give statistics of what every page is all about.

The Govt. would have sought the help of Internet kings such as Yahoo, Google to get this issues solved. May be, some Ankit Fadia’s can come out with a web-filter, or a crawler to give right soultion! - Or something, that is really a reasonable solution which can give a permanent cure.

Technology is always much faster than what we think; The hacker’s brain is the most genius mind in the world I ever see; they will discover thousands of other ways to bring back whatever it is! – if you hide. :)

lastWeek.replay()

It's a week since I posted my last blog. I was not busy, but lazy :). Here is just a replay of the things went around last week:

The 3rd ‘Head First’

The list of technical books, I have read and been reading from the past 6 to 7 months:

1. Sun Certified Java Programmer and Developer [finished]
2. Head First Servlets & JSP [finished]
3. Head First EJB [finished]
4. Struts in Action [finished]
5. Jakarta Struts Cook Book [half]
6. Oracle 9i : The Complete Reference [little bit!]
7. Head First Design Pattern [Just geared ]

Out of all, Head First EJB is the most unforgettable technical book, which turned me laughing while reading some serious technical stuffs! It's absolutely a ‘Brain-Friendly’ technical book, a non-stop page turner and doesn’t make tired at all.

It'll be great, if every technical book can present the stuffs in the way the Head First Series present. (Of course, we don’t need to insure our brains!)

Then, I'm getting stared with the 3rd Head First, that’s on Design Patterns.

Yahoo mail goes cool!

I activated 'Yahoo mail's Beta' for my account. My request was in queue and just got activated two days back. Yahoo mail beta is just like outlook.

The highlights are

1. Tabbed windows (for reading/replying/composing mails at a time).
2. Dragging and Dropping mails to folders.
3. RSS subscription option! (pretty cool. it works with other RSS feeds, but, when I tried subscribing to my blogspot url (http://manivannan57.blogspot.com/rss.xml), it didnt accept. Any cold war between Y! and G? :) )

Yahoo mail beta's demo flash is here: http://overview.mail.yahoo.com/us/

Imsai Arasan 23rd Puligesi

I was expecting it from the day they begun the film. At last, went to the film during this week end. For the first hour, it is boring some what. When the war is announced (against Puligesi), theatre blasts in laugh! Then, couldn’t able to control laughing till the end.

It may remain a mile stone in Vadivelu's career. Congrats.

Kallikaattu Ithigasam

In 2003, I had this book with me. Had read few chapters. Then, didn’t get chance to continue it.
Now got the book and started reading back. I have gotta write something about it. I will drop a post here after I complete it.

Thanks to jeya, who committed to complete the book in a week's time, completed as said, and gave it to me :)

How many ways can be something cool?

May be as many ways as Google. From the days I started using google, it excites me every now and then. Google is not something that does its single job as a search engine – it’s really beyond it. I have posted quite lot many things about google in this blog over years. Still, it some times excites me to write further about it.

This early morning, I was searching some vague stuffs in google; see, Google marked the ‘Visited links’ with visited time!. Look at the search results in the image. I rounded up the spots in red.

What's happening here?

The climate is pretending to be very cool now a days. No rain; No heavy sun strokes. It sometimes drizzles and blows strong wind. Did it forget it is Chn? :)

I am expecting the film, 'imsai arasan' eagerly. The trailer seems very funny; the film might be breaking grounds!

I have lots and lots of things to work out this week. So, I indeed need tones and quintals of energy to do!

Yes, long sleep and heavy food will not help :(

Links, have to be blogged.

1.Good examples for JMS, found here: http://darwingrok.physics.ox.ac.uk:8080/source/xref/JBoss/jboss-all/messaging/src/docs/jms-examples/

2.A wonderful article on JDBC is here: http://java.sun.com/developer/Books/JDBCTutorial/index.html

After reading this, you have to be able to answer for the ques, "what’s the difference between PreparedStatement and Statement? " :)

3.Very good/advanced examples for Oracle+JDBC are waiting here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/advanced/advanced.html
(I haven’t yet looked at them deeply; but they sound as good future references!)

Don’t miss JBOSS’s Wiki stuffs; there people wrote everything what you call as ‘secrets’!.

Hmmm… few more links, I really forgot!

JNDI Stuffs | EJB Stuffs

Today, I was modifying some EJB JDNI context of my application. , , were the stuffs, kindling my brain today afternoon. I was looking keen at DataSource (javax.sql.DataSource) and its deployment descriptor options. Good design.

It was really great to read the article "Advanced JDBC", at Sun's site. My God!, the article was dated 1999; people are always curious to learn and do things faster!

I am planning to sign-off all Ejb-Stuffs by this week end! I will post some interesting tips, links and articles here tomorrow.

I am feeling 85.

I am feeling that I am85+ old. I meant to say I feel dead-tired in these days. Moderate work flow. No energy. I am almost free now. Next task is not yet assigned. Sometimes getting weird of what to do with computer! .

Thinking to kick start Java ee 5.0 as every one talks about it.

I happened to pass through some vairamuthu's lyrics.

Here are some pointers:

The Patriot

The Patriot -- Mel Gibson

This is the latest (!!) movie I saw. Mel Gibson's another patriotic story. I am very much lured by Mel Gibson films because of two things:

1. The sceneries shot will be beautiful and green.
2. The script (dialogues) will be very much exciting.

This film is also not an exception. But, most of the scenes remember us ‘BraveHeart’. Otherwise the film is good.

How do I register a project & upload at sf.net?

Hey, Successfully done! I have uploaded my sample project at http://j2ee-examples.sourceforge.net ....

Yeah, Here is the snap shot of my putty. Thanks to Hari, who helped me to get out of the mess!

And this is scp uploading screen-shot

As I promised, this is the FAQ I present from my experience:

------------------------------------

How do I register a project at sf.net?

First register for a user account. Then, go to ‘My Projects’ column and follow the new project link. It will guide throughout registering a project. After the registration, you have to wait for approval more than 2 weeks. Approval will not be emailed, you have to go and check.

I followed the instructions and successfully uploaded the project using CVS into sf.net. (I mean projectname.cvs.sourceforge.net). But, it is not available for download for other users. What went wrong?

Same sweet first! I was also such an ignorant last week. CVS is for you and for managing your versions. Sf.net doesn’t allow the CVS folder’s or files for download. For uploading projects (which can be downloadable), you can use ‘scp’ or ‘sftp’ (about which we are going to discuss later).

So, how do I upload?

In case of windows, first download putt.exe and scp.exe (use Google). Then, launch the scp like from the command prompt like,

scp -r . username@shell.sourceforge.net:/home/groups/P/PR/PROJECTNAME/htdocs

The command says, “Hey scp, recursively (-r) copy all the files present in current directory (.) to shell.sourceforge.net server, under the directory /home/groups/P/PR/PROJECTNAME/htdocs”

Note: you have to replace the ‘P’ (in the destination directory path) by the first letter of your project name and ‘PR’ by the first two letters of your project name.

htdocs directory is where the htmls files are kept. (like your web root directory). The allocated quota is 5 MB. In the same hierarchy you have cgi-bin directory where you can put your php or cgi scripts.

Then, how do I login and see every thing?

Use either putty or ssh on windows. The host name is shell.sourceforge.net, the port is 22. You have your login and password right? Then, what else! Enjoy.
I can just tell you where you should not try to login. Projectname.cvs.sourceforge.net – This is not for ssh-ing. Only for CVS repository access.

Last time, when I logged in to sf.net, it was successful. Same thing I try now… but the putty is closed saying “connection problem”... but the network is fine …sf.net is ‘Ping’ able from my host …. What went wrong?

(OR)

My ssh gives some strage errors like

‘ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host’

Do you want to see more ?

$ ssh -v username@shell.sourceforge.net
OpenSSH_3.5p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090701f
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
debug1: Applying options for *
debug1: Rhosts Authentication disabled, originating port will not be trusted. debug1: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 debug1: Connecting to channel-e.sourceforge.net [66.35.250.209] port 22.
debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /home/csea/.ssh/identity type -1
debug1: identity file /home/mani/.ssh/id_rsa type -1
debug1: identity file /home/mani/.ssh/id_dsa type -1 ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
debug1: Calling cleanup 0x80674d0(0x0)

Now, tell me what went wrong?

Don’t worry. You are not the culprit. Sf.net might have blocked the access. I also got the same error message.
I tried logging after 1 or 2 days. Then, it worked fine. I guess, the access list would have released the lock. Not sure…

All the best!

[================ 70%]

The subject is a simple progress bar for the work I have been doing since a week. At last, I found out a way to upload my project files into sf.net. Surely, I will write about it in detail here, as it may help out lots of sufferers like me! Yesterday night, uploading things were going fine....but things were interrupted abruptly! As you know, the villain is 'power-cut' !

My 3rd article was approved by http://javareference.com ! As the moderator was on vacation, it was not yet published, and expected to be published tonight.

Probably, during this week end, I may......... (No, no, I will do and write back here! Promises are too hard to meet :) )

Then, what else? Climate is changing cool. This week is probably going to be cheerful (I too don’t know why!). I am feeling bored of new songs. My winamp is always playing very old Tamil songs. My fav songs download happens at here: http://coolgoose.com

Esspecially, I wonder at this song ‘Sindhu nadhiyin misai nilavinile… cheranan naattilam pengaludane..’ It is Bharathiyaar’s song. TMS (TM Soundara rajan) played it. TMS voice gives a feeling that Bharathi himself sings!

While listening the song, it amazes me…! What kind of thinking and imaginations Bharathi had on that day… which none of us can even dare to have now!

Time changed everything right!. But, something is still eternal like the one.

Struts Custom Controller

(FYI: http://radiocomments2.userland.com/comments?u=135826&p=202&link=http%3A%2F%2Fradio.weblogs.com%2F0135826%2F2006%2F05%2F15.html%23a202)

FYI:

22:24:11,125 ERROR [[action]] Servlet.service() for servlet action threw exceptionjava.lang.StackOverflowError

No Use!

1. Hot
2. Hotter
3.Hottest

"EJB3 in Action" by Debu Panda. (Sample chapter)

Debu panda (Product manager for Oracle J2EE server (OC4J), Oracle Corp) is promoting EJB3 a lot. He is writing the book "EJB3 in Action". He is making his effort to explain how simple the EJB3 is.

The sample chapter of the book is out: (http://www.manning-source.com/books/panda/EJB3_in_Action_Draft_ch_02.pdf)

sf.net approved my project and ??

I have registered my Final Year Project and one more project at sourceforge.net under GNU/GPL License. Now, sf.net (=sourceforg.net) approved it.

Links given below may give details:

1. https://sourceforge.net/projects/channel-e
2. https://sourceforge.net/projects/online-exam

Wait, wait... I have not uploaded any files/docs. I am giving final touch up on the source code and docs. With in few days (yes, during this week end) I will host project source/docs.

PS:

I have registered for one more project (J2EE-Examples), which is a simple book store application.

In this project, I will make my effort to follow all the authorised and recommended best practices and design for every J2EE modules.

Also, this project will be a good example for developing Struts based applications.

This project will cover JSP/JSTL, custom taglibs, Struts, EJB (Stateless/Stateful session bean, Entity Beans (CMP, CMR), Message Driven Bean), Java mail API, Junit.

Tools: Jboss/Ant/Mysql.

Probably, at end of this week end, I may be ready with the front end Struts - UI .

Chapter 22:

Chapter 22:

I am 22 on this 14th May 2006. Thanks a lot to all my dears who conveyed wishes from the early morning (and reminding me not to forget the b’day at this time at least). As usually, I see this day as a normal holiday! Nothing excites me. (My actual b’day is on 15th May 2006 as I am a 14th mid night born)

I especially thank my dear mom and dad who wishedto long live and advised me to go to temple. I will do that surely my dear parents!

For the last few days, I was working out a lot on self analysis. I had listed all my failures and their root causes. I was very happy to agree that I was the 99% responsible for every failure! The remaining 1% is my ignorance.

I am correcting myself very fast. I am practicing them. Sooner, you can see “Mani in Action” – (Not by ‘Ted Husted’)

I am very happy to foresee that the next 5 years are going to be exciting! It’s because of the great work (culture) I am getting ready to start out.

Let’s get moving!

EJB 3 spec approved by JCP.

EJB 3 spec was approved by JCP (http://jcp.org) . I hope, Jboss and OC4J (Oracle container for J2ee) are the only servers have implemented ejb 3 so far, if I am not wrong. Now, we can expect to see Ejb 3 on every where in earth soon.

EJB 3 sounds simple. Remote and Home interfaces creation has gone. POJOs will save your life!

Thanks.

Deployment descriptors will be thrashed.

Thank you very much.

There are also some drawbacks (due to these advantages). I am not going to think about them, as they will be recovered as time passes.

I am eagerly expecting Java EE 5 spec to be in action as soon as possible. Then, J2EE will loose its tag “The complex technology”. J2EE will survive for ever then.

Real Hereos: Bruce Lee.

He was 18 while moving from Hong Kong to USA. He had passions to master in Martial Art. He became. It's Bruce Lee, who turned himself a very tough man from a short and lean.

I have seen almost all of his movies. To name few, "Enter the Dragon", "Return of the Dragon", "Fist of Furry", "The Big Boss", "Game of Death". All are exciting; they are 'Master Pieces' of Martial art. Lee was really very fast that the camera could not catch him!

We have lost such real hereos.

EJB: CMP, BMP, CMR Beans.

CMP, BMP, CMR - I am not going to expand them here and I leave the terms to be expanded by google.

Almost done with CMR bean. Very hectic. Why is it this much complex? I guess it might be simple while working with Eclipse and XDoclet ....etc.

But, I am not going to touch them now. I will prefer using plain old command line technique with the help of the great invention 'Notepad.exe' :)

Sun is on head.

Weather is rapidly worsening day after day. It seems Sun is sitting on the head while walking along the road. I like sun light and summer, but not this much!. First time in life, I am very much scared to see the climate.

Surprisingly, I see the sun light at morning 5:30. And also the Sun is looking bright till 6:30 evening. That's actually great, but why is it burning at day time?

We escape as we are sitting in a/c rooms in front of computers – but
What can be the answer for the people make their live on roads?
